Our Journey is Fleming County Schools’ district-wide newsletter, shared weekly with students, teachers, staff, parents, and guardians. It serves as a clear and consistent line of communication that keeps our school community informed, connected, and aligned. Our Journey helps create a shared understanding of where we are, where we are headed, and why the work matters.

The Week of Monday, February 16, 2026

Across Ewing, Flemingsburg, and Hillsboro Elementary Schools, academic teams give students opportunities to stretch their thinking, work together, and apply their learning in fun and meaningful ways. Through challenges in subjects like math, science, quick recall, and general knowledge, students practice problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and perseverance.

These experiences go far beyond memorizing facts. Students learn how to think under pressure, explain their reasoning, listen to others’ ideas, and grow from both success and setbacks. They build confidence, responsibility, and the courage to try something hard. Most importantly, academic team participation helps students discover that learning can be exciting and collaborative. It shows them that their knowledge has real value and that working together often leads to better solutions.

We are proud of our students and coaches who give their time, energy, and heart to these teams. They represent the very best of what we want for every learner. Curious, capable, and ready for whatever comes next.

In Fleming County Schools, we celebrate the creativity and talent of our K-12 students. From paintings and designs to choir, band, and drama performances, the arts are alive in every corner of our schools. Take a moment to explore this week’s featured work and help us celebrate the incredible ways our students are creating and expressing themselves.

Context: Simons Middle School is excited to present its spring performance of The Wizard of Oz, featuring an incredible cast of 60 students from grades 6 through 8. This production marks Carla Prather’s 18th musical/play as director, continuing a tradition of outstanding student performances and memorable school productions. Prather not only directs the show, but also choreographs each performance and designs and creates the props and set pieces that bring the Land of Oz to life. From the vibrant costumes and creative scenery to the energetic musical numbers, the production is sure to captivate audiences of all ages.

Dear Fleming Countians,

This past week, we began our Formative Student BPI Website Interviews. These interviews are designed to help students strengthen their evidence of grade-level readiness in durable skills such as Problem-Solving, Communication, Creativity and Innovation, Growth and Achievement, and Collaboration.

We started with each student’s About Me page. This page is more than an introduction. It is where students showcase who they are, including their interests, hobbies, talents, goals, skills, and even the people who matter most to them. Students in grades 4 through 12 were randomly selected to participate in this first round of interviews. Each student received personalized feedback highlighting their strengths and identifying specific ways to strengthen their evidence. The goal is growth, clarity, and confidence.

The second round of interviews will begin during the week of February 23. This round will focus on growth, mastery, readiness, and personal data. The purpose is not simply to collect information. It is to understand what the data truly says about a student’s progress toward grade-level expectations. We want students to be able to explain their growth, defend their mastery, and demonstrate their readiness in ways that are clear and meaningful.

Fleming County Schools continues to be recognized at the state and national level for this work centered on student demonstrations of learning. We maintain high expectations in reading, math, writing, and all core subjects. At the same time, we believe students must be able to demonstrate both academic skills and life skills that will follow them long after graduation. Test scores matter, but they are only one data point. Our Local Accountability work, including the BRIDGE Performance Indicators, ensures that we look at the full picture of student readiness.

The BPI Formative Interviews have been both exciting and informative. Our students are doing remarkable work. More importantly, these interviews allow us to truly understand each student as a learner and as a person. Students in grades 3 through 12 are required to finalize their BPI websites by Friday, March 27, 2026. After Spring Break, all students (K-12) will participate in End-of-Year Presentations of Learning. These presentations are powerful demonstrations of growth, mastery, and readiness. More than that, they allow students to share their interests, passions, and aspirations in a way that makes learning personal and meaningful.

If you would like to observe a Formative BPI Website Interview between now and Spring Break, please contact me at brian.creasman@fleming.kyschools.us or 606-845-5851. You are also welcome to attend school-based End-of-Year Presentations of Learning by contacting your child’s principal for the schedule. And if you have never experienced a Senior TED Talk, I encourage you to do so. Our seniors do an incredible job.

Thank you for your continued support of our students, teachers, and district.

Our Journey Continues…

In Fleming County, every graduate leaves footprints here. Over time, those footprints become the path that guides the students who follow.
